Our Story
When Koan found the charming farmhouse and 15 acre farm on Fishtrap Road, one of the selling points was a large workshop building with gorgeous natural light. It was a shared dream amongst staff and students to create a magical makerspace and art building for our students to enjoy for years to come. It has taken some time to turn that rundown building into the art studio of our dreams, but with lots of hard work and many detours, we are finally at that point.
Through the years, the staff at the Koan School has enjoyed sharing their unique creative talents with each other. From basket weaving in Amanda’s backyard to collaborating on fundraising efforts and campus beautification projects, we have valued learning from each other. It is through this desire to share our skills and our recently renovated art building with the larger Denton community of crafters that the Koan Arts Workshop was born.

It is our mission to foster a community of arts and crafts enthusiasts and provide a multi-use rental space to the community.
